Gambling Addiction: The Machine Zone

Author Natasha Dow Schüllsays the way slot machines are built, from the screens to the chairs, serves a very specific purpose. That purpose is to get players into the "machine zone" where they are drawn into a zombie-like state and the world around them disappears. Dow Schüll spent 15 years researching how slot design can keep players engaged for more than 12 hours at a time and the harmful effect it has. We'll talk with Dow Schüll about her book and slot addiction.
